Volunteering with Eleanore’s Project

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are not accepting volunteer applications at this time.

Since 2007 we have collaborated with Yancana Huasy in Lima, Peru. Eleanore’s Project sends a shipment of wheelchairs and other equipment, followed by a volunteer team of professionals to mentor and work alongside our Peruvian colleagues. Yancana Huasy professionals are close collaborators who know their community well; we typically spend two weeks side by side with them fitting and customizing wheelchairs for those in need. For those unable to dedicate two full weeks, a commitment of at least one week (5 full volunteering days) of time is requested.

We look for a variety of roles on our team including occupational and physical therapists with expertise in wheelchair seating and mobility, wheelchair techs, general volunteers and interpreters. Therapists are required to have experience in 24/7 therapeutic positioning, which is the foundation of the wheelchair service at Yancana Huasy.

Volunteers are self funded, but many have raised funds to support their work with us. If someone you know would like to make a tax deductible donation on your behalf for this purpose, arrangements can be made. If you have questions feel free to reach out to us and we will be glad to answer them. Perhaps some day we will see you in Peru!
